Rare Cancers Awareness Day (RCAD) has been held annually on 26 June since 2021.
Throughout the month of June, we ask all Australians to join us in supporting people affected by rare cancer, improving awareness of rare cancers and the challenges people face, and highlighting the change families need and deserve.
Although individually, a person’s cancer may be rare, together we can have a strong and united voice. Rare Cancers Awareness Day helps to show people affected by rare or less common cancers that they are not alone.
Recap of RCAD 2024: A person’s cancer is as unique as their fingerprint
Our 2024 campaign highlighted the reality of navigating the maze that is our complex health system with limited information, little support, and often huge financial burdens.
People were asked to pledge their support for rare by adding a virtual fingerprint to our online map of Australia. The 500+ pledges made throughout June were a powerful visual reminder that although patients may be rare, they are not alone.
We are grateful to everyone who added to the pledge, posted on social media, shared a personal story or experience, and helped raise awareness of what it means to have a rare or less common cancer. It was incredible to see so many heartwarming messages of genuine support for those living with rare cancers.
