With more than 20 years of radiation oncologythe study, diagnosis and treatment of cancer and clinical research experience, Prof Gerald Fogarty is committed to providing personalised, patient-centred cancera disease where abnormal cells split without control and spread to other nearby body tissue and/or organs care. He endeavours to support multidisciplinary care with referrers and other health professionals to optimise treatment outcomes.
Over the last 10 years Prof Fogarty has held senior radiation oncology positions at Macquarie University Hospital, Skin & Cancer Foundation and Melanomaa type of cancer that develops from melanocytes, which are the cells that produce pigment generally in the skin (but can develop in other areas of the body) Institute of Australia. Before commencing at Icon Cancer Centre, he was the Site Director and Senior Consultant Radiation Oncologista doctor who specialises in treating cancer with radiation therapy at St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney from 2016 to 2021. His career goal is to establish level one evidence base for therapies in cancer, especially in skin cancer, to achieve the best possible treatment outcome for patients.
Prof Fogarty maintains a strong interest in clinical research and education, actively engaging in the education and mentorship of emerging medical professionals. He is the Master of Warrane College and holds academic appointments at the University of Technology Sydney, University of Sydney, University of Notre Dame and Macquarie University Hospital. Prof Fogarty is a regular invited speaker to national and international conferences and has authored over 180 publications including the radiation therapya treatment that uses controlled doses of radiation to damage or kill cancer cells section of the 2019 NHMRC Management of Keratinocyte Guidelines.
Prof Fogarty remains at the forefront of new technologies in radiation therapy treatment and is a leading specialist in the use of stereotactic radiation therapy, volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), intensity modulated (IMRT) and external beam radiation therapy (EBRT) techniques. His clinical experience covers a broad range of solid tumoura tissue mass that forms from groups of unhealthy cells malignancies, with a special interest in skin cancer and benignnot cancerous, can grow but will not spread to other body parts skin conditions amenable to radiation therapy.
