Mummy's Wish Program

Practical support for mums with cancer.

A Mummy's Wish mother, Olga holds her daughter whilst she blows a dandelion flower.

When a mum is diagnosed with cancer, it can affect the whole family. For young children, cancer can be particularly scary and hard to understand, and they can have even more questions than usual.

That’s where our Mummy’s Wish program is so powerful. Mummy’s Wish provides dedicated practical support for mums who have been diagnosed with cancer, and who also have young children. The program focuses on providing practical support like healthy meals or cleaning, as well as resources to help families talk about cancer.

We send books for families to read together, carefully chosen to be age-appropriate and focus on the topics that may be most valuable in each circumstance. Each child also receives one of our much-loved Comfort Bears to cuddle, with a voice-recordable heart for mums to record a special message for the times families cannot be together.

The program is open to mums who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer, and who also have young children.

Cancer Navigation

Our Mummy’s Wish team also provides personalised navigation to help mums with the complexities of the health system, understanding treatment options and connecting them with other relevant services and support.

Peer Support

Mums can meet and connect with other people facing similar circumstances through our Mummy’s Wish peer support.

We have a very active private Facebook Group where mums can share their experiences, ask questions and connect with others who understand what it can be like to juggle a cancer diagnosis and treatment alongside the daily responsibilities of parenting.

Each month, one of our navigators also facilitates a live support group via phone and videoconference, allowing mums to join from anywhere across the country and chat in real time.
