Dr Nick Pavlakis underwent medical training at the University of NSW and graduated in 1991. He underwent general medical training and subsequent advancedat a late stage, far along training in Medical Oncologythe study, diagnosis and treatment of cancer at Royal North Shore Hospital, completing FRACP in 1997. He then spent 3 years completing a PhD in new cancera disease where abnormal cells split without control and spread to other nearby body tissue and/or organs drug development and a Masters of Clinical Epidemiology through the University of Sydney. He has been on staff in the Department of Medical Oncology at Royal North Shore Hospital since 2001 and has been Head of Department and Head of the Clinical Trialsresearch studies performed to test new treatments, tests or procedures and evaluate their effectiveness on various diseases Unit since 2008. He has worked in private oncology practice since 1998 and a practice member of the Northern Cancer Institute since 2001. He has previously served on the Executive of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA), the Private Cancer Physicians Group of Australia (PCPA), the Australian Lung Cancer Trials Group and on Advisory boards for colorectalrelating to the colon or rectum in the large bowel/intestine and lung cancers and new cancer drugs.
He is an academic medical oncologista doctor who specialises in the study, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, having published numerous journal manuscripts, is conducting ongoing research and teaching activities locally through RNSH and NCI (University of Sydney) and externally (through MOGA, PCPA, RACP).
His clinical interest is in solid tumoura tissue mass that forms from groups of unhealthy cells oncology, particularly lung cancers, mesothelioma, colorectal cancer, all other gastrointestinal cancers and genitourinary cancers (prostatea walnut-shaped gland in the male reproductive system that is responsible for producing semen - a bodily fluid that acts as a vessel for sperm transport during ejaculation, kidneya pair of bean-shaped organs in the abdomen that are responsible for filtering excess water and waste products from the blood and converting them into urine to be removed from the body, and testis). His clinical research focuses on trials in these tumour types and includes new cancer drug development, especially in the area of anti-angiogenesis drugs.
Dr Pavlakis is a VMO at North Shore Private Hospital, the Mater Misericordiae Hospital, Dalcross Hospital and Armidale Hospital.
