Matthew Owen
01.11.1969 - 07.10.2018
In December of 2014 Matthew was diagnosed with a rare cancer. He was given 6-12 months as a prognosis.
Due to advanced tumour profiling and the detection of mutations, it was possible to extend this prognosis to almost 4 years.
This came at a high financial expense to Matthew and his family as the drugs used to extend Matthew’s life are not listed on the PBS for his type of cancer.
Rare Cancers Australia (RCA) offered support and advocacy on behalf of Matthew to the Pharmaceutical companies. Without their continuing advocacy for all Rare Cancer patients, treatment will continue to be either stressful or inaccessible.
Matthew, Karen and William wish to continue to support RCA and other families affected by Rare Cancer.
